A paper plane parade (EN-CUR-609) - Teaching With Europeana

Since the beginning of their existence, the humans looked up to the sky and dreamt to fly above the clouds. During the learning activity, the students are challenged to investigate the flying machines which helped mankind to travel through the air. They become aerospace engineers who learn how does an airplane fly and build their own paper planes. The paper plane parade lesson let the children understand that dreaming is the first step to happiness and daring is the first step to success.

This learning scenario has been developed during the “Digital Education with Cultural Heritage” online course. The course aimed to improve teachers’ understanding of cultural heritage in order to efficiently integrate it into their lessons and practices. The courses can be accessed here.

The STEM aspect of the LS is very interesting. I also liked the idea of students testing their pre-existing knowledge and modifying it after the presentation of the new material.

Dear Alina Marilena Buduleanu,
I found the script very interesting. Younger students are dreaming of the sky. It’s great that you can do that with this script. It’s a great idea to integrate stem teaching. It’s a great idea to have students design their own planes with group work. It has contributed to the development of our students’ engineering skills. You have also contributed to the development of our students’ citizenship skills through group work. When I had my own students apply it, they liked it very much when they made airplanes. They liked it a lot when I flew their plane in nature. We had a little competition. whose plane went the furthest. They really liked it. They discovered the beauties of nature because I did it in nature.
