Adaptation to Climate Change with Technology (LS-TR-587)

Climate Change is one of the most serious issues around the world. It threatens the existence and sustainability of all the livings. Especially, it affects human lives in many areas such as water resources, agriculture & food supply, and public health. Despite these effects, humans have the disruptive technologies that help them to minimize the effects of these threats. Disruptive technologies are one of the most important and powerful forces that can help people adapt to climate change.
So, the aim of this scenario is to give a chance to students to develop their solutions against climate change. And also give students a chance to be climate change activists as a sustainability world for humans, animals, and plants.
Climate change is the most serious threat to sustainability human lives. It has a big impact on people’s lives around the world. We are experiencing impacts of a changing climate change in many fields such as water, energy, transportation, wildlife, agriculture, ecosystems, and human health at the moment.
First Step: Understand The Threat Of Climate Change
Students use World Climate Simulation. They face climate science, engage in the drama and tensions of global politics. Also, they visit the Nasa Climate Change website.
- Water Resources
Water resources are decreasing. We know that most of the water is using for agriculture. Especially In some regions, decreasing water sources mean drought that is an important factor affecting farmers’ production. Also, the frequency of heavy downpours has increased. In many regions, floods and water quality problems are likely to be worse because of climate change.
- Agriculture and Food Production
Agricultural production depends on climate and weather conditions. Changes such as increased temperatures, water stress, diseases, and weather extremes create challenges especially for the small farmers who put food on our tables. Food has a big major for human community sustainability and the future. The food source is agriculture. So, agriculture is the human community’s future.
- Public Health
Climate change affects human health. Because human health is vulnerable to climate change. The changing human habitat such as higher temperatures can cause shorten the development time of pathogens, poor air quality, and respiratory problems, and also the spread of new pandemics diseases.
Second Step: Learn Disruptive Technologies For Adaptation
Because of these threats; humans, animals, and plants’ habitats are must be modified. But, disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, Farms, Industry 4.0, Mobile Technologies and 5G, Blockchain, etc. can help humans to adapt to climate change. Learn, understand, and use these technologies for creating new habitats for sustainable human lives. So, in this learning scenario firstly students make awareness about climate change and then create their solutions via using disruptive technologies approach.
Third Step: Design Solutions by Using Minecraft Education Platform

Then, they create their customized worlds through creativity and collaboration on Minecraft Education. Minecraft Education is a game-based learning platform that promotes creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving in an immersive digital environment. Students create new worlds on the platform. They use disruptive technologies in their creative designs to adapt to climate change. Additionally, the student shares all their ideas and Minecraft world designs on Padlet.
Finally, the learning scenario is very interesting for students. Because it gives a chance students to develop their solutions and to be an activist for climate change adaptation via using technologies. Also, this learning scenario gives them to find some beneficial solutions to be developed as individuals for the human future. Because new disruptive technologies have a big and facilitating power for climate change adaptation. So, teachers must encourage students to develop solutions for climate change and a sustainable world and human lives by using technology.
