Books as the purpose of life (EN-CUR-610)

Children should be taught from an early age to be balanced and to set a purpose for their lives. Reading books opens their thinking and gives them the privilege to have high purposes. This learning scenario aims to bring books closer to the children and to breathe a healthy balance in their daily activities. Nowadays technologies offer lots of reading and exploring possibilities.

This learning scenario has been developed during the “Digital Education with Cultural Heritage” online course. The course aimed to improve teachers’ understanding of cultural heritage in order to efficiently integrate it into their lessons and practices. The courses can be accessed here.

As a teacher of Croatian language and literature with high school students, I see that this topic could be very interesting to me. High school students should always be made aware of the fact that literature, like other types of art, is something that can and does build personality. As future intellectuals, they must be aware that by choosing literature, they determine their mentally and mentally healthy progress in the intellectual world.
I would give them a task on the topic:

If the book was my friend, I would like him to tell me …
after that, we would look at the selection of literary titles on Europeana and we would choose the titles of our choice.
after that, I would ask them to go further on Europeana to research about the author, the country, or the work. We would do an exhibition then,
Book (is) – my friend (with each selected book would go the text of the explanation of the choice)

Hello Mara- Mihaela Frenț, I really liked your learning scenario. Especially the idea of children to establish their own libraries is very nice. It’s a great idea to have a discussion on the books. You have enriched your learning scenario with the web 2 tools you use. We could have diversified ideas to make reading more enjoyable in your learning scenario. For example, you could advise our students to read by the light of a flashlight. Mine is just an idea. I plan to implement the learning scenario as soon as possible. Thanks.

Dear Mara- Mihaela Frenț,
Your learning scenario is very interesting because it is connected with reading, with books.
When reading books, we only have words in front of our eyes and we must visualize what is described on the pages. Often times, these are things we can’t see in the real world! Scientists have long proved that reading stimulates the right hemisphere of our brain, which is responsible for the imagination.
