Isometries on Croatian and European traditional costumes and old handcrafts (EN-CUR-183)

This learning scenario aims to teach students that isometries (and Mathematics) can be found everywhere around us and that people use them in everyday life even if they don’t know that they are using them. Students will explore isometries (line symmetry, central inversion, translation and rotation) on Croatian traditional costumes (especially on the costumes of east part of Croatia – Slavonia) and old handcrafts and compare it with isometries on traditional costumes and old handcrafts they find on Europeana (traditional costumes and handcrafts from different parts of Europe outside Croatia).

This learning scenario has been developed during the English version of the “Europeana in your classroom: building 21st-century competences with digital cultural heritage” online course. The course aimed to improve teachers’ understanding of cultural heritage in order to efficiently integrate it into their lessons and practices. The courses can be accessed here.
