School uniforms, yes or no? (EN-CUR-203)

Every school year, there is a topic about schools and education in which students learn about different educational systems. Throughout the topics they learn how to write an essay and improve all four learning skills.

The aim of this learning scenario is to enhance basic vocabulary, associated with school uniforms, as well as their critical thinking skills and collaboration skills.

This learning scenario has been developed during the English version of the “Europeana in your classroom: building 21st-century competences with digital cultural heritage” online course. The course aimed to improve teachers’ understanding of cultural heritage in order to efficiently integrate it into their lessons and practices. The courses can be accessed here.

This is a very interesting learning scenario which encourages the students to think critically about both sides of the coin, in this case about the positive and negative aspects of having a school uniform. Writing their ideas about a specific topic is a good ideas as this would fully give the students a voice based on what they think.

Thank you for sharing! This lesson surely enables pupils to think critically. Given the fact that this is such a hot debate especially in Malta, pupils will sure be engaged into evaluating the pros and cons related to uniforms.

It’s an amazing topic to promote critical thinking! In Malta, this topic is an ongoing debate and it would be very interesting to work on something similar with my pupils. I’m currently teaching younger pupils but I will try to do this learning scenario with them. I really like that you incorporated various digital resources such as Padlet, Mentimeter and Europeana web page.

Thank you for an excellent scenario on an engaging topic students can easily relate to. I especially like the fact that it employs all the language skills and it is easy to follow.
