Subtitle it! (LS-IT-675)

Subtitle-a-thon is an initiative that invites the public to create and add subtitles to archival audiovisual clips coming from various European heritage collections available on Europeana.eu. The aim of the experience is to make audiovisual material accessible to multilingual audiences and, for the currently underrepresented AV-heritage, to become more widely available. This learning scenario has been designed to present Subtitle-a-thon to school students and has been used to introduce them to the: Subtitle-a-thon Caserta, a competition organized in collaboration with Archivio Luce – Cinecittà  and supported by Liceo Manzoni Caserta. Subtitle-a-thon Caserta was organized within the Europeana Subtitled project, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility Programme of the European Union.

During the event, students with different language skills worked together toward a common goal: to create and add different subtitles to archival media fragments coming from various European collections. During the events, students had the opportunity to use specialized technology to subtitle the content. The participants subtitled short audiovisual clips coming from Luce archival collection, present on Europeana.eu.
