Where do they work?/ Wo arbeiten sie? (LS-PL-572)

How do you introduce workplaces and occupations in your languages lessons? This learning scenario will give you an example how to use Europeana Collections in this topic.
Vocabulary introduction
In this German lesson learning scenario created by Barbara Legutko the new vocabulary is introduced by having students identify and talk about what they know about this topic using their experience. The students (aged 14/15) using Europeana resources will learn about workplaces and occupations in different countries across Europe. Then the students will learn how to use the word “arbeiten” in sentences as well as get to know the usage of different prepositions connected to the workplaces.
Working lives across Europe
This learning scenario will help for a better memorisation of the new vocabulary, but also allow the students to understand the work environment in many European societies as it is now and as it used to be in the past. This is an opportunity to learn how challenging the different occupations could be. Using Europeana resources, the students will also identify the work environment in many countries.
The online tool Powerpoint is widely accepted by the students and results from acquired knowledge after using the resources of Europeana are immediately apparent.
