Implementation of “Let’make green decisions” (SOI-HR-389)
Author: NATAŠA SERŠIĆ, teacher of the economic group of subjects
School/Organization: Srednja škola Dalj
The learning scenario “We make Green Decisions” by Anita Lasić was used as a starting point. The script was applied by teacher Natasa Sersic in high school in the first grade for the profession of economist. In the course of Fundamental Economics students meet with the concept of sustainable development. The implementation lasted for two 45-minute lessons and was implemented with 15-year-olds.
There is a correlation with the subject of entrepreneurship. Also, the outcomes were achieved in the domain of interrelated topics – to explain the impact of the level of development of society and the economy on the quality of life of the individual; identify and explain the consequences of fragmentation and habitat destruction, overexploitation and climate change.
The main reason for choosing this topic is the research I conducted among high school students (120 students from the Republic of Croatia participated). The research concludes that young people want to engage in sustainable development actions, want to change their lifestyles for sustainability purposes.

Introduction
In the introductory part, my students wrote their associations/notes on the concept of sustainable development using Padlet (you can use Jamboard as well). We discussed their associations together.
Associations using Padlet
Group work
Students were divided into 4 groups in the main part. They opened a blog story: Green through time: four historical figures that raised environmental awareness.
The task of each group was to determine the roles of the group: journalist, historical personality, and the author of the question for the Kahoot. By the method of role-playing, journalists and historical figures presented to other groups the awarded historical personality: Hippocrates, John Elevyn, George Catlin, Rachel Carson. They were very easy to get into the roles. The game of Kahoot was played.
Short documentary
Students watched a short documentary videos in the main part of the teaching unit:
– National Geographic (YouTube) Causes and Effects of Climate Change.
– The Story of Stuff (2009) From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.
Discussion
Afer that they discussed what they have seen and heard. Many questions have been raised: what is the price of our lifestyle, where the limit of personal consumption is, why income distribution is unfair.
Making posters
The creative part of the class was making posters. Each group created a poster to present the topic from their point of view. Student works in progress:

Self-assessment
Self-assessment cards were prepared to confirm pre-set outcomes. For the end of the project, we did a quiz about inventions and discoveries. The first three students who scored the highest points received a small gift.
The main learning outcomes are:
• Explain the history concept of sustainable development;
• Explain the concept of circular economy
• See the link between natural resources and sustainable growth;
• List the essential features of sustainable development;
The proposed teaching scenario is the starting point of the paper, where the teacher presents his creativity. The most important thing is motivation at the beginning of the lesson. The teacher is just a coordinator.
Part of the class includes students with individualised classes. They fit very well into the process and used power point to show their results.
Teachers in the job description have the attribute of great enthusiasts. Every new opportunity for new skills is a gift. I’m very happy to use the materials from the Europeana platform. I told my colleagues to step outside their borders, challenge themselves in new areas. Students developed 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and ICT competencies
