Implementation of “Nature in Spring”(SOI-TR-266)

’Implementation of ‘Let’s make green decisions” is a learning scenario prepared by teacher Nada Peretić in Croatia. 7-8-year-old students implemented this scenario. While the learning scenario is being applied, they will observe the awakening of nature in spring. They will take photos of flowers blooming in spring and draw pictures of them. In this scenario, I emphasized to the students the importance of awakening nature in spring from the point of view of the world, based on the daily life problem and I emphasized that this awakening will not happen if we do not pay attention to our surroundings. We tried to find out what we could do for a sustainable environment with STEAM and project-based learning.
The implementation context
I applied my learning scenario to students in the 9-10 age group. I have developed a different perspective on this learning scenario. While implementing the scenario, I wanted to emphasize the artistic beauty of nature waking up in spring and what we can do for a sustainable environment. We did a project-based learning study based on STEAM, giving the daily life problem. We used a lot of web2 tools while implementing the learning scenario.
The narrative
Why this learning scenario?
This learning scenario was appropriate for the acquisitions in the Science and Visual Arts course. It included the topic of natural and artificial environments, which was our topic in the spring. I wanted to observe the awakening of the environment in the spring, associate it with art and attract my students’ attention.
Learning Processes and Tools
We set out from the beauty of nature, which awakens with the arrival of spring. This learning scenario became to me the starting point for a sustainable environment. I developed this learning scenario within the scope of the sustainable environmental development goals of the United Nations. Starting from here, we attracted the attention of students with the beauty of nature waking up in spring and how should we protect our environment for the continuation of this beauty in nature. we were looking for an answer to this question. I tried to get their attention by singing about spring with our students. We searched for pictures of spring from Eurapana resources. We went out to the school garden with my students and drew pictures of flowers found in nature. We planted flowers such as lilies, daisies, and roses in the garden of our school. We ensured that our students integrated with nature.
OUR WORK AND EVALUATION WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF STEAM
I divided the students into groups with teamaker. We have made the fastest puzzle-making competition with a jigsaw planet for the fusion of groups. We asked the groups to draw pictures about spring on quiver augmented reality paper. We animated pictures. We have three daily life problems in our groups. We asked the first group to create a model of the natural environment. We asked the second group to create an artificial environmental model and ask what can you do for a sustainable environment. We asked the third group to make a model of your dream school with the arrival of spring at our school and what can be done for a sustainable environment. Our groups have completed their studies. A presentation of models was made. We chatted about the beauty of nature, and flowers, which woke up with the arrival of spring. What can we do to protect this nature? and what can we do for a sustainable environment? we were looking for answers to these questions. We evaluated with Wordwall.
Implementation area in our schoolWe planted flowers in October in the garden of our school with three teachers and students from our school We cleaned the schoolyard altogether. We all made flower pictures together. We animated the pictures we made with Quiwer augmented reality. Our teachers and students have analyzed the pictures in Eurepeana.
Learning outcomes
What did we do with this Learning Scenario?
Thanks to this scenario, we enabled our students to realize the beauty of nature and the flowers that come with spring. Our students realized what the natural and artificial environment is and what they can do for a sustainable environment. Our students had the opportunity to apply the project-based and STEAM-based learning scenarios. They did interdisciplinary work. This learning scenario can be the beginning of many activities. It develops our students artistically. They took responsibility for planting flowers. They had a chance to observe the growth of flowers. If we associate the activities we will do with various web2 tools, we will attract the attention of students.
Outcomes for the educator
What did Europeana add to us?
Thanks to Europeana, we have found many pictures of spring. We have discovered the beauty of nature in previous years. Thanks to Europeana, we had the opportunity to examine many learning scenarios. Learning scenarios should be examined very carefully when using Eurepeana. If it has an SOI after examining the LS, it should be examined as well. Keywords should be chosen carefully when examining images. Thanks to Europeana, we have had the chance to establish a connection between education and a person’s past.
