Implementation of ‘The Legend of Wilhelm Tell’ (SOI-MT-512)

Author: Leanne Ancilleri Cucciardi, German Teacher, Malta

Introduction

The Narrative

I implemented only a small part of the learning scenario as I only had 40 minutes. I divided the lesson accordingly.

  1. I introduced the lesson with a brainstorming activity. I asked the students to come up with what they knew about Switzerland. (5  minutes)
  2. I went to ask the students what the word Legend means, and we even came up with Maltese legends. (5 minutes)
  3. I used a picture from Europeana to introduce the students to the topic of Wilhelm Tell. Zeichnung, Wilhelm Tell mit Walter / Skizze einer orientalischen Szene ? | Europeana (5 minutes)
  4. Instead of using the German video found in the learning scenario, I used another one: William Tell | The Animated Story (youtube.com) (5 minutes)
  5. They finished the lesson by creating a poster on Wilhelm Tell using Canva. They used a picture from Europeana. (20 minutes)

Outcomes

During this activity, the students learned about Swiss culture and about Wilhelm Tell. They become familiar with Europeana and learn how they can use it for future work. They also developed their ICT skills as well as improved their collaboration skills by using Canva.
