Teachers’ meetings – a good opportunity to discuss the importance of cultural heritage

Preserving cultural heritage is the best way of building the future and what could be the best example of promoting cultural heritage if not Europeana Collections ?

Teachers’ meetings are always a very good occasion, not only to exchange good practices, but also to find new ways to make classes more interesting and attractive for students. Approximately 25 history teachers and students from Galati, Romania, participated in a methodical activity organised by the County Centre of Excellence and the County School Inspectorate and coordinated by Maria-Isabela Miron, Europeana Teacher Ambassador for Romania.

The activity aimed to answer some key questions: What is Europeana? How can I use Europeana resources in my teaching activity? How can I use and multiply the educational resources offered by the Teaching with Europeana blog?

Working together teachers found different way to use Europeana Collections in their classes. They explored the collections, gave valuable ideas and put themselves in the students’ place.

Some examples of good practice were presented by teachers already involved in the project as part of the Romanian User Group Teachers during Europeana DSI4 Project. Some of them are:

In an age where information is very important, but often overwhelming in its quantity and variety, it is important for teachers to find the most reliable and valuable sources of information for themselves and their students.

After teachers, students took the floor in a very interactive debate about the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
